L!vesites Kids September/ October
School Holiday Program
L!vesites in association with Sydney Children’s Festival, The GPT Group and Newcastle Museum presents the L!vesites Kids October School Holiday Program for kids aged 5 to 12. Look what’s on offer for FREE these school holidays!
Kick off the festivities on September 25 or 26 by joining gardening enthusiast Gerry Bailey for a hands on Kitchen Garden Workshop. Learn how to plant fruit and vegetables and cultivate them for use in cooking. Gerry is a very experienced gardener and boasts that he can grow just about anything. His speciality is creating garden beds in small confined areas. Workshop times are 10am - 11am and 12noon - 1pm.
On September 28 and 29 Sydney Children’s Festival will be in town to present the workshop Working Title Words. Kids across New South Wales will create an exciting exhibition, to be presented by CarriageWorks for the Sydney Children’s Festival. Part storytelling, part Chinese whispers and a whole lot of creative energy, Working Title Words is a unique community art project where kids mix art, craft and storytelling in a hands-on two day workshop.
First join a local storyteller to learn the ins and outs of creating a good story. This project bounces stories from venue to venue around New South Wales, picking up more words at every stop to create one long rambling narrative.
Then join Sydney Children’s Festival Artist Bess O’Malley for a workshop about art, craft, colour and all things in between. You’ll use your story to produce an artwork, resulting in 20 new works from your group. These artworks will then be installed at the Sydney Children’s Festival at CarriageWorks, joining all of the stories together to create an enormous exhibition, celebrating language, creativity and expression! Kids must be enrolled in both days to participate in this workshop.
Let out your inner artist at the Recycled Art Workshops with celebrated local artist Ken O’Regan on October 6. Here’s your chance to make your debut in the professional art world! Let out your true colours as you learn how to make exquisite artworks and murals from recycled materials. The artworks produced will then be mounted on the walls around Market Square in Newcastle Mall and become permanent fixtures for all to see.
If acting’s your thing join Tantrum Theatre on October 7 for an action packed day of Drama Workshops. Learn the fundamentals of acting from some of Newcastle’s finest tutors through games, movement, vocal exercises and group play-building. Create your own characters and see them come to life as you shine on stage! At the end of the day, show off your star quality in a performance for your family and friends.
All activities (except the gardening and kitchen workshops) will take place between 8.30am and 5.30pm at Market Square located at Suite 40, Hunter Street Mall Newcastle.
Kids should bring with them morning and afternoon tea, lunch, a water bottle, hat and sports shoes.
Parents are invited to attend a presentation by their child at 4.15pm after each day of activities.
